3 Tips to Optimize Your Emails
- In the text of your e-mails you informally address the customer: calling users by their name gives the proposed offer uniqueness and personalization;
- Write short messages and insert the fundamental contents in the first few lines: users read the emails quickly and must have the message clear right away;
- Use a clear and easily recognizable font, divide the text into paragraphs and insert clear links and graphically attractive Call To Action: all these activities allow the user to have a positive perception of the promotional message;
Subject of the Email
Knowing that, according to research, 47% of people open an email based only on the subject line, we can see how effective and catchy writing is essential to make sure it is read and not ignored.
Here are some basic rules to keep in mind when writing the subject line of your email:
- Keep the subject line as short as possible, 3-5 words is the optimal length.
- Consider writing the subject line after writing the email to make sure you get the focus of the email.
- Emails, received from a person instead of a brand or company, have a higher opening rate.
- This is also an aspect that you can refine through an A/B test. Avoid no-reply because it creates distance and is impersonal.
- Use effect words like “better”, “special”, “definitive”, “performance” etc. in the object and make it more personal.
- Remember that quoting statistics or numbers already in the subject line increases the chances of the email being opened.
- Avoid using capital letters throughout the sentence as well as emoji.
- Always test the subject line of the email before sending it.
“Double open” strategy
This strategy consists in sending the same email again to those who did not open it the first time. The only thing you need to do is to change the subject line and try to write a more effective one.
Call to action (CTA)
This term is widely used in marketing and indicates an invitation to take action (opening a link, buying a product or service, subscribing to a blog, etc.). In emails the CTA allows users to click and be redirected to, for example, the company’s website or a sales landing page. You can add a CTA:
- In the text
- In the header
- In one button
The subject line of your email should be as short and concise as possible, not only because it is more impressive, but especially because emails are increasingly being read on small devices such as tablets and smartphones.
This increases the risk that your subject will be cut to fit the size of the screen. The tricks to keep in mind are:
- Copywriting skills
- Using symbols and numbers
